Polar Communication and Weather (PCW) Mission

Led by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), the PCW Mission is now being cooperatively developed with Environment Canada (EC) Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) and other Departments.  Northeast has supported CSA since PCW’s inception in early 2007.

Radarsat Constellation Mission

Northeast supported the RCM initiative from its inception, working for Magellan/Bristol Aerospace who are providing the spacecraft bus.

CONAE (Argentina)

Mr Buckingham provides support as/when requested, via the CSA, for projects implemented by Argentina’s Comision Nacional de Actividades Espaciales (CONAE) , see http://www.conae.gov.ar/eng/satelites/saocom.html. He is a member of external Expert Review Panel, responsible for reporting to the Inter-American Bank (IAB).

Telesat consulting support

Mr Buckingham supported Telesat Canada for a variety of projects from 2003 through 2007.  The work included support to Telesat’s REMSAT which is a proto-type communication service for on-site disaster assistance.

CASS Mission Initiative

Northeast is currently supporting Magellan/Bristol for an environmentally important mission to provide continuity of the atmospheric measurements now being made by the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (ACE) Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS)operating in the solar occultation mode from the SciSat satellite.

Hyperspectral Initiative

In 1997 the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) began a hyperspectral Earth Observation (EO) initiative. Northeast supported CSA from 1999 through 2005.

Other projects
  • In 2010 Northeast began supporting Magellan/Bristol’s work for MDA Robotics in the area of lunar and planetary exploration.

  • Since 2008, Northeast has supported Magellan/Bristol and the University of Alberta for the ORBITALS space plasma science initiative. The project originally included the University of Colorado.

  • In 2003 Northeast helped CSA plan what later became the Canadian small satellite bus.

Northeast’s support has encompassed management and implementation recommendations, developing “terms-of’ Reference” documents, writing Statements of Work, developing schedules and budgetary estimates, reviewing proposals, making critical evaluations and recommendations, estimating risk, developing mechanical configuration concepts, orbit analysis, thermal analysis and conceptual design, structural analysis and conceptual design, instrument engineering encompassing remote sensing characteristics and requirements, operations development, preliminary propulsion analysis, launch vehicle compatibility engineering and assessment - and space systems engineering in general. As well as reviewing documents and analyses done by other organizations, reviewing business plans and models and making presentations.
